An important project
Olle is only 42 years old when he gets the news of a brain tumor. He has lived a fantastic life with family, friends, and meaningful work. But the fact remains: Olle is in the middle of his life and has so much yet to experience. He wants to live.
In this book, Pär, Olle's father, seeks answers to ease the grief and find meaning again. This is the story of a father-and-son relationship continuing in conversations at the same place on the shores of Lake Mälaren. In these conversations, Olle becomes not only someone to be mourned, but also takes on the role of a consoler, an active part of the future.
We had the honor of creating a layout for this very special and personal book.

Pictures as a graphic element
Illustrations to convey emotions
Every time Pär stood on the banks of Lake Mälaren and talked to Olle, he took a picture of the view. I let these images become a design element in themselves by having them mirror the headline of the chapter spread, in the same size and place, but on the opposite side. This way, I let the spreads become a place for reflection and left the interpretation open as to what these two opposites are to each other.
I decided early on to use illustrations to bring the story to life. The illustrations had to be rooted in Olle’s life yet open to the reader’s interpretation. I did a couple of sketches, and the amazing Hue Huynh brought them (and a few more) to life with a more flowy sketch-like feel that created a nice contrast against the more static layout.
